Central Brittany Cricket Club

Central Brittany Cricket Club (CBCC) is an amateur club based in Silfiac (56480), 20km from Pontivy, the nearest large town.  Silfiac is quite a small village but in typical French fashion still manages to have 2 bars and a primary school.  CBCC has been functioning for 9 years, in various forms and at different grounds.  It has been based at the current ground, Stade de Silfiac for 3 seasons now and has recently been granted a 10 year ‘term’ by the Mayor.

The 2014 season has been very busy so far as we have received several touring teams from  Somerset, Devon and South London and we still have 2 more to come during September. Everyone is complimentary about the grass wicket, general condition of the ground and the welcome they receive – we are a friendly bunch!  We have hosted a 6-a-side Tournament which took place over 2 days and included teams from Brittany and Paris.  The players have just returned from their first tour – to Paris – where they played against 2 prestigious Clubs. After the Paris tour the next exciting fixture will be CBCC vs Les Silfiacois. This will involve CBCC playing against a team of villagers who will be a mixture of English and French.

Our players span a broad age-range: teens to 60s. We are always looking for additional players, especially people who have played before, as we wish to develop and strengthen our team when faced with opposition such as The BBC Bushmen who toured here last year. You will notice I did not specify the gender of players – men and women are equally welcome, and Nets Practice takes place during most of the year for our Team Captain to assess everyone’s skills levels.

Non-players are welcome to spectate and support our Club by becoming Associate Members. Qualified/experienced scorers and umpires will also be welcomed. The more players and supporters we have the better, as this gives the Captain more choice, especially when people are away or injured.

As 2015 will be the Club’s 10th anniversary we will be planning an action-packed year with as many fixtures as possible; social events to boost the Club’s funds; schemes and activities to promote cricket within local primary schools, lycées and colleges.

Although cricket is a minority sport in France there are already 3 national teams: men, women and under-19s. One of the ambitions of CBCC is to start up a colts’ side – this will allow us to develop talent and spread enthusiasm amongst young players, thus continuing the new tradition of cricket in this beautiful, unspoilt area of Central Brittany.

Friendly, family oriented cricket club. A warm welcome is extended to visitors & playing members.
